Hawaii 2020
January of this year I somehow ended up lucky enough that my father and I took a vacation to Hawaii, the island of Maui to be more specific. When you hear of people going to these islands you know that they are going to have a million photos to show off after the fact, but in my case I feel like I “took” photos and everything looks lackluster compared to the real deal. However this isn’t going to be a huge post detailing every little thing I did with tons of photos, but a quick rundown with some photos that turned out decent enough. But really, you just can’t even get the clarity of this water and the punches of blue that are in the sky to turn out as much as I wish they would digitally.
Day one we went snorkling over the reefs and managed to see a TON of whales. Since it was their breeding season. That evening we went to a Luau which the food was of course amazing but learning the culture and seeing the dances was so beautiful but also kind of sad. Day two we checked out Haleakala and wow. Just wow. Being above the clouds was very surreal and the national park was so quiet, much more so than Glacier National Park. On day 3 we managed to go horseback riding on the cliffs and this was by far my favorite activity. I haven’t been on a horse in years (rode for 14 years) and it felt like home. My mare was named Spirit (of course) and we got a good hand gallop going. Proceeded to go around the rest of the island that afternoon in the Jeep.
After that it was filled with downtime until we flew back to LA and then into Philly first thing in the morning. I got some sun (which is fading) and felt so so good to have in January. Honestly I think I’m a west coast girl at heart, I like the vibes and the weather, the pace of these towns and the openness of the cities and towns. I fell in love with Seattle in July of 2018, so I think if my entire life wasn’t on the east coast that I wouldn’t hesitate to leave and live in Washington (maybe even Hawaii since I loved it so much). Overall it was a great trip with my dad and I’m glad we got to go on a vacation together for the first time in years; the fish was just- ugh, SO GOOD. So fresh and I am dreaming of having fish that good again but I know it’ll all pale in comparison. Went a little off track with that last thought but I needed to mention the food. I am a huge water ice fan but shaved ice is the way to go and when it comes to the quality of food we had there were no complaints at all.
Just hoping I can go again in the next couple of years! Get some friends together and explore the island as well as just relax more on those beaches (or by the pool in some cases) but either way I can’t wait until I get to go back.
